ZoneVu 6.8 expands its cloud-native platform with integrated well planning, spacing analysis, and completion design tools – accelerating the company’s long-term vision for connected subsurface intelligence and addressing growing shale development complexity.
DENVER, Colorado—October 8, 2026—Ubiterra today announced the release of ZoneVu 6.8, bringing well planning, spacing analysis, and enhanced completion visualization into the same cloud-native environment teams use to interpret geology, monitor drilling, and evaluate completions.
For decades, geologists, drilling engineers, and completions teams have relied on sophisticated technologies to understand the subsurface and develop increasingly complex wells. Yet the information and expertise needed to make critical decisions often remain fragmented across applications, workflows, and departments. This fragmentation becomes a growing liability as operators tackle more complex shale development.
Ubiterra is building a different approach.
Designed from the ground up as a cloud-native subsurface platform, ZoneVu brings geology, seismic, drilling, geosteering, and completions information into a shared, structured environment where teams can visualize complex relationships, collaborate in real time, and work from a common understanding of the subsurface.
“Geoscience and geosteering form the keystone of sound well development, providing the subsurface understanding that guides decisions from well placement through completions - especially as North American shale development becomes more geologically complex,” said Peter Flanagan, CEO of Ubiterra. “We built ZoneVu around geosteering because we believe the expertise geoscientists develop during mapping and while drilling should inform decisions across the entire asset team.”
Connecting Development Planning with Subsurface Intelligence
ZoneVu 6.8 extends that shared subsurface environment with three new planning and visualization capabilities.Well Planning in Full Geologic Context
The new Well Planning tool enables geologists to create, modify, and compare well trajectories alongside seismic data, structural grids, geologic interpretations, and existing wells. Teams can develop multiple plans, evaluate their placement relative to geologic targets, and export the information needed for directional well design.
A More Complete View of Well Spacing
The new Gun Barrel tool provides interactive visualization of well placement and geologic relationships along the lateral. Users can evaluate planned and existing wells alongside structural grids, seismic, and interpreted faults, with calculated nearest-approach distances and horizontal and vertical separation between wellbores.
Connecting Completion Design to Geology
The new Frac Wing Display allows teams to visualize anticipated or modeled fracture geometries and orientations by stage in map, cross-section, and 3D views. These displays bring additional geologic and spatial context to completion design, helping engineers evaluate fracture placement relative to neighboring wells and subsurface structure.
Together, these new capabilities help teams evaluate development alternatives, identify potential well-interaction risks, and carry geologic knowledge into drilling and completion decisions.
“As shale development becomes more complex, teams need to carry geologic knowledge across disciplines and turn it into coordinated action,” Flanagan added. “Our vision is to connect those workflows from planning through completions. Version 6.8 takes an exciting step toward that vision with our new well planning module, putting geoscientists’ understanding of the subsurface directly into the evaluation of future wells.”
Less Friction. More Collaboration. Better Access to Information.
Beyond the new planning and visualization tools, ZoneVu 6.8 introduces significant improvements to the everyday software experience. A redesigned interface makes it easy to navigate projects, access data, and work without losing spatial context. Streamlined importing and enhanced project management reduce steps, while expanded live-data support and contractor collaboration capabilities help connect the people and information involved in active operations. These improvements reflect a central principle behind ZoneVu: powerful technology should make complex work easier, not more complicated.Built for an Industry Moving Toward Connected Operations
ZoneVu’s architecture is designed to support a broader transformation in how operators access and use subsurface information.
Built on Microsoft Azure, the browser-based platform combines a structured subsurface database, interactive 2D and 3D visualization, automated data ingestion, and a two-way API that enables integration with other enterprise systems.
Unlike traditional per-seat and modular software licensing models, ZoneVu subscriptions include unlimited users and features, allowing operators to extend access across geology, drilling, completions, and other teams without additional per-user licensing.
This approach reflects Ubiterra’s belief that access to subsurface information should support collaboration rather than create barriers between disciplines.
As operators increasingly seek to connect operational data, streamline workflows, and prepare their technology environments for advanced analytics and AI, ZoneVu provides a foundation for making subsurface knowledge more accessible and useful throughout the well lifecycle.
ZoneVu 6.8 represents another step toward that future – connecting workflows, information, and the people responsible for successful well development, while helping teams address the growing technical challenges of a fast-moving industry.
